Mormon 7

READ: the whole chapter

Who is mormon talking to? V1 says.. remnant of the people who were spared. What does that mean? (Spared when Christ came from the destruction) These people aren’t just the direct descendents of Laman and Lemuel…. They are the descendents of the most righteous of the people who survived, and descendents of the great book of mormon leaders and prophets

What instructions did mormon give to Lehi’s descendents? (See book) How does the book of mormon help people believe the bible? Brigham young quote #1 : “No man can say that this book (laying his hands on the bible) is true…and at the same time say that the Book of Mormon is untrue;… There is not that person on the face of the earth who has had the privilege of learning the Gospel of Jesus Christ from these two books, that can say the Book of Mormon is true, and at the same time say that the Bible is untrue. If one be true, both are.” (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, 1:38)

Mormon 8 This is the first writings of moroni after the death of his father, mormon.

Read v3 What can we learn of Moroni’s character from this verse? Read 14-16 Who is the “he” moroni is referring to in these verses? How was Joseph’s eye single to the Glory? -one example I can think of is when Moroni appeared for the third time, he said he would be tempted by satan for the “purpose of getting rich” Later he was tempted to want the plates to relieve his family’s financial situation…. He wasn’t able to receive the plates until his eye was single to God’s glory.

How was the prophecy fulfilled that it will come to the knowledge of the people by the power of God? --Urim and Thummim What can we do so the Book of Mormon will continue to be “brought out of darkness unto light”? Quote #2 – Pres. Benson: “I commend you faithful Saints who are striving to flood the earth and your lives with the Book of Mormon. Not only must we move forward in a monumental manner more copies of the Book of Mormon, but we must move boldly forward into our own lives and throughout the earth more of its marvelous messages” (in Conference Report, Apr. 1989, 3; or Ensign, May 1989, 4).

Read verse 21-22 How can this verse strengthen us as we do the Lord’s work?

Read 26-33 – What things did moroni prophesy would be occurring when the BOM comes forth? V31- lack of responsibility for our actions It is amazing to see the vision that moroni had of our day. We see all these things happening every day.

Read 36-38 – What did moroni say about pride in the last days? Why might some people be ashamed to take upon themselves the name of Christ”? Quote #3: President Ezra Taft Benson said: “The antidote for pride is humility—meekness, submissiveness (see Alma 7:23). It is the broken heart and contrite spirit… “God will have a humble people. Either we can choose to be humble or we can be compelled to be humble. … “Let us choose to be humble”

Mormon 9 Read 3-5: Why would these people be more miserable dwelling with God?

V9: God is same today yesterday & forever. Why is this concept important? V10&19 – Our Salvation depends on an unchanging God. Otherwise the rules could change at any time.

V20: why do miracles cease? V21 tells us how we can have miracles happen in our lives Quote #4 Elder Bruce R. McConkie: "It is by faith that miracles are wrought—not faith as an abstract, unembodied, vaporous nothingness, floating like a fog in the universe, but faith in the living Lord, faith centered in Christ our Head. The eternal law is: 'Whoso believeth in Christ, doubting nothing, whatsoever he shall ask the Father in the name of Christ it shall be granted him; and this promise is unto all, even unto the ends of the earth.' (Morm. 9:21.) Accordingly, any person who has ever performed a miracle, in any age, has done it by faith in Christ. For the past, at the present, and in the future, all miracles are wrought by faith in that Lord who is Christ." (The Promised Messiah, p315)

If someone told you that there are no miracles what would you say to them. Or what personal experiences could you share?

In V27 Moroni tells us to “doubt not but be believing.” Joseph smith also taught “where doubt is, there faith has no power” How can we overcome our doubts? -Quote #5 Joseph Smith taught: “Those who know their weakness and liability to sin would be in constant doubt of salvation if it were not for the idea which they have of the excellency of God, that he is slow to anger and long-suffering, and of a forgiving disposition, and does forgive iniquity, transgression, and sin. An idea of these facts does away doubt, and makes faith exceedingly strong”
